Athena warned arachne- arachne dismissed her: athena: weaves gods fighting, arachne: inappropriate images of gods- humiliating the gods. Athena is furious and turns arachne into a spider before she could kill herself. This shows: boundary between gods and mortals. Gods: ageless, good looking, bigger and stronger, always happy. Always guards these claims for themselves against mortals.
