A priori knowledge of the world is possible. Clear and distinct apprehension is the criterion of knowledge. A priori: knowledge we gain by reason alone without the use of senses. Things have improved since the rst meditation: i now have two pieces of knowledge. But i am still in deep epistemological problem. We must prove two things to solve our problem: god exists, god is not a deceiver. Finite depend on in nite substances for their existence. This enables us to apprehend things clearly and distinctly . There must be at least as much reality in the ef cient and total cause as there is in its effect . We know this by the natural light . Substance does not have enough reality to cause another substance. I have the idea of god ( an idea with the highest degree of objective reality)
