Baby girls more socially oriented than baby boys just minutes/hours after birth -> keep eyes open and stare directly at a smiling adult for longer period than newborn boys do. Frontal lobes of brain develop earlier and facilitate more ef cient self-control; fewer behavioural outbursts; rated as easier to control; easier to toilet train (achieve it earlier) W/in rst 6 mo of development, girls tend to become more sociable and more inclined to coo" at people and recognize familiar faces. Most de nitions of aggression: behaviours that are intended to hurt or harm others; behaviours that best thwart or damage goals that are valued by respective gender. Boys generally harm others with physical or verbal aggression because this behaviour is consistent with the physical dominance peer group goals of boys. Girls are more apt to focus their aggression on relational issues w/ their peers; consistent w/ social peer group and intimacy goals of girls.
