Document Summary
Low metabolic needs + increase of appetite > weight gain/obesity. Development of posture: dynamic process linked w/ sensory modalities- skin, muscles, vestibular organs in the inner ear, and cues from vision and hearing. Learning to walk: constant kicking leading to gradual forward movement to valance of weight usually achieved by rst year. Development in the 2nd year- the sequence of gross motor skills is uniform as infants gain independence; most 2 yr olds are motor pro cient; despite some parents". Training all infants appear to reach motor pro ciency at around the same age. Cultural variations: mothers in developing cultures tend to stimulate their infants" motor skills more than mothers in more advanced cultures; infants around the world still reach these motor milestones within a close age range. 3 yr olds do much hopping, skipping & jumping as they master these skills; large muscle development at this age requires exercise; dgeting is an indication of this growth.
