Anacephalic: no brain; a little of the stem but no cortex. Microcephalic: very small brain -> mental handicap. Polymicrogyri: excessive number of small gyri -> mental handicap. Lissencephaly: smoothing of the brain (often associated w/ macrocephaly) Csf produced in choroid plexus but if the duct is blocked then above caused which leads to the brain getting larger and larger. Phenylketonuria (pku): increases level of phenylalanine in blood -> mental handicap. Food refusal, weight concerns and fear of fatness in children. Children refuse food for all kinds of reasons, aversion to the sight, taste or form of food, little appetite, or distractions w/ more interesting activities; seldom lasts long. Medical problems (for example gastroesophageal re ux) can disrupt the mother-child interaction during feeding and early childhood feeding and eating disorders may lead to developmental delay and growth retardation.
