Island way out in middle of the ocean. Giant models of heads carved out of stone from the middle of the island and moved to end of the island. Easter island was settled by polynesians, they were very good at building boats, moving on oceans, and good at agriculture. Made it to this island 300 ad. Overharvested native resources on the island chopped down every single tree and their society collapsed. Without new wood, they could not build boats to leave, fish, etc they could not support themselves, not enough area to support them terrestrially. Found people there, and they were cannibals because they were starving. Society collapsed because of poor use of natural resources. Deals with the link between our ecological knowledge and our natural resource management. Ecological sustainable economy: sustainable development while maintaining biodiversity. Ecosystem services have profound effects on our environment. Need to recognize that the things we do depress the value of ecological services.
