Between 1994 and 2013, em-dat recorded 6,873 natural disasters worldwide, which claimed 1. 35 million lives or almost 68,000 lives on average each year. In addition, 218 million people were affected by natural disasters on average per annum during this 20-year period. A measure of discovering basic scientific principles (observations, measurements) Are formulated to explain the observations or data. A generally accepted explanation for a set of data or observations. A generalization about the behavior of nature from which there has been no known deviation after numerous experiments. Internal factors within earth: plate tectonics, result of internal energy of the earth. External forces on earth"s surface: atmospheric effects, energy from the sun. Physical, chemical and biological ways by which events affect the earth"s surface. Consider the presence (or absence) of: volcanoes, rain, erosion, vegetation. A hazard is any natural process that poses a threat to human life or property.
