Lady justice portrayed in robes, blinded, one hand holding scale, other hand holding a sword. It can be construed as a balance between exercise of power, and restrain on exercise as power. Sword symbolizes that justice is strong and compel obedience. But not arbitrary, power is supposed to be exercised in a fair, just way. Maat egyptian goddess, no scales but has sword/spear. All these symbols of justice all have symbol of power (sword/spear) embedded in them. If there is no power, then can there be no law. Some of his critiques are influenced by utilitarians. But with saying what the law is separating it from if it is morally correct, morally reasonable. Types of laws: 2 types of laws positive law and divine/god"s law. Positive: not in sense of contrast to negative (good law), but positive law is law made by humans. It is has been put forward by humans.
