Document Summary

Jupiter can be imaged well from earth, even with a small telescope (third brightest object in the night sky, after moon and venus). Jupiter has many moons that vary greatly in size and properties. Voyager 1 and 2 explored jupiter and saturn. Voyager 1 went above the orbital plane while voyager 2 passed by uranus and neptune on its way out of the solar system. This was the only mission to launch a probe into a jovian planet. Cassini continues to explore saturn and its moons. When sending a spacecraft to far away planets we often take advantage of gravity assists to get extra mileage/speed. We can speed up or slow down the probe, but direction will be changed. Uranus was discovered i 1781 by herschel; first planet to be discovered in more than 200 years. Little detail can be seen from earth; arrows point to three of uranus"s moons.
