Abundance of free time in the lives of contemporary adolescence has several origins: compulsory schooling in the early 20th century. Prior to this, adolescents were working full time, schedules like adults: post - wwii affluence. Families no longer needed teen to bring in income, so income a teen had could be spent on other things; namely, themselves.
