PSYC 3580 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Metacognition, Convergent Thinking, Functional Fixedness
Document Summary
The analogy approach: uses a soluion to a similar, earlier problem to help solve a current problem. When we encounter major barriers in the medical ield, we turn to nature since evoluion has naturally solved problems for years. Structural (problem) isomorph: same type of problem, diferent context. It can be helpful to ind a soluion to a problem when you imagine yourself inside of a speciic problem. Consider soluions that may not be possible in realm of reality; think outside the box. The means-end heurisic: otherwise known as the divide and conquer strategy. Divide into sub-problems then go as far as possible with each sub-problem. Rule or operater: one digit (0-9) can be subsituted for one & only one leter & vice versa. Goal: find the soluion that produces a correct arithmeic problem. Tower of hanoi: goal to move all disks over to tower 3 but you cannot place a larger disk on top of a smaller disk.
