PSYC 2300 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Quota Sampling, Nonprobability Sampling, Simple Random Sample
Document Summary
Surveys regard a critical aspect of beliefs, opinion, behaviour, etc. A response set might be adapted: taking on a persona to answer yes or no to particular questions. Socially desirable response set: giving the researchers what it is expected of the culture/society involved in. Faking good: pretending to concern one"s self with issues in society that the participant thinks the researcher would deem desirable. Use language that someone between grade six to eight would understand. Leading questions/loaded questions: the answer is implicit in the question (do you agree the government is corrupt, moral, and should resign?) Avoid double negatives (do you not not agree?) Avoid questions that involve only yes or no because an explanation can"t be determined for the participants" response. Close ended: participant has to select from possible answers (multiple choice) Answer may not be on the survey. Open ended: give any response that you want.
