Freudian personality psychology: the first formal personality theory. Freud is very likely the most important scholar of the 20th century. We hold stock in dreams: they tell a story. Slips of the tongue are not random events. Early childhood experiences shape our later adult behavior. We trust that speaking of our problems will help relieve them (even physical ones) In freud"s day and age, most of his thoughts were considered highly unusual. Freud is arguably the most important figure of psychology. Freud got many things wrong, but notably, many other great thinkers did too. Freud was a tremendous student, and his father encouraged his siblings to be quiet while. Freud saw a demonstration of hypnosis by jean-martin charcot in 1885. This presentation convinced freud that people were not entirely in touch with who they are. A woman was supposedly being injected with animal spirits, but freud was very skeptical of this.
