An organized structure, a system composed of a set of interdependent parts (like gears, they a ect and depend on each other) A change in one part a ects the other parts of the system. Control is maintained by communication and feedback. The family subsystem consists of special functional units called subsystems. A subsystem may be a piece of larger system and at the same time will also be a complete structure in itself (i. e. m-f dyad, or the mother-father subsystem) A system in and of itself, children can also be a subsystem. No hard and fast rule about how many subsystems. Within a larger structure there will always be subsystems. Wholeness: refers to the relationship between the total system and its parts. The system in an integrated coherent entity that is more than the sum of its parts. Homeostasis: the tendency to maintain a balance.
