More than 200 different ethnic origins were reported in the 2011 census question on ethnic ancestry. Ethnic origin, as defined in the census, refers to the ethnic or cultural group (s) to which an individual"s ancestors belonged. The list of origins reported includes cultural groups associated with canada"s first peoples, north american indian, m tis and inuit, and groups associated with the founding of canada, such as french, english, scottish, and irish. It also reflects the history of immigration to canada in the past 100 years, with groups such as german, italian, chinese, ukrainian, dutch, polish, and so on.
