Anatomy and Cell Biology 2221 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Tubercle, Epicondyle, Vertebra
Document Summary
Bones increase in mineralization and become more dense and thick. Osteoclasts eat up bone as bone grows outwards so that the wall thickness match the outward growth. Eaten away, osteoclasts are winning the battle b/w osteoblasts. Greenstick: splintering, no broken straight through, frayed, partial. Impacted: one end (sharp) of the bone driven into the medullary cavity of another. Potts: roll over sprain, tearing of ligaments (ankle) Colles fracture of the distal end of the radius (lateral bone of forearm) head of radius gets pushed posteriorly. Bone remodeling phase: compact bone continuous across the break. Fissure: pathway, narrow slit between parts of a bone. Facet: smooth, flat articular surface: movement b/w bones. Head: most proximal end, the top, rounded. Crest: roughened or raised portion, attachment point for muscles. Line: connection or attached point for muscles, long narrow bridge. Spinous process: connection point for muscle, acts as a lever. Trochanter: roughened and irregular portion connective point for muscles (only on femur)
