Document Summary

These are the two parts that are hugely enlarged in humans. Through the vertebrate evolution many of the strucutres are highly conserved, however a shocking thing when comparing different animals to humans is how hugely enlarged these two are in humans. If you look at them you see these gyri and in between are the sulcus. All tese folding are due to the fact that the surface of your cerebrum is so huge that it wouldn"t fit into your skulll and so to accommodate the large surface area. They are more or less the same in everyone with some variation. As you cut the brain you see other structures such as brain stem etc . There are 3 meninges, layer surrounding the brain. They are from the outer to the most inner: dura matter (seen in the pic); means tough mother" because its very tough/hard to cut. It"s a protective layer attached to the skull.
