Document Summary
Sensory regions have a region adjacent to them that is an association cortex. Reaching into your pocket and distinguishing between a key and a coin. Primary somatosensory area features of the object. Association cortex higher order integration, used to tell the difference between objects. All sensory regions are behind the central sulcus in the posterior half of the cerebral cortex. Primary motor cortex: cells with long axons sends impulses to the spinal cord and a lower level neuron send this impulse to the muscles for movement. Premotor cortex: not just enough to be able to send impulses down to execute movement, planning and coordinating complex voluntary movements must be in order. Broca"s area: control of speech, is on the left half of the cerebral cortex. Plans and coordinates all the muscles needed for speech sends impulses to primary motor cortex to influence the muscles related to speech.
