Anatomy and Cell Biology 3319 Lecture Notes - Lecture 45: Recto-Uterine Pouch, Pelvic Floor, Vagina
Document Summary
Homologous = come from a common embryological origin, but look diff in the adult. Acb lecture 11 (45) female: uterus, vagina, and perineum. Internal genitalia: vagina leads into the vestibule and intrudes between anus and ureteral opening, vagina is associated with external genitilia. Vagina: tubular fibromuscular organ, cervix of uterus enters vagina at ~ 90 , forms deep recess fornix, vaginal orifice, three layers, outer adventitia, middle muscularis, mucosa with transverse rugae. Pelvic diaphragm consists of: levator ani, pubococcygeus ii. Forms floor of pelvis and supports pelvic organs. During defecation, part of the pelvic diaphragm elevates the rectum to force out feces. Supports pelvic organs: forms the roof of the perineum, forms the floor of the pelvis. Perineum is a region like the abdomen or thorax. Here we"re looking at roof of perineum. Perineum and peritoneum are completely different structures. Urogenital triangle is filled in by the urogenital diaphragm.
