Document Summary
Muscular tube that goes from external os down to vulva. Serves as a birth canal through which a baby is delivered. Cervix enters the vagina at a 90 degree angle (anti flexed) Where the cervix intrudes into the anterior wall of the vagina, there are parts of the vagina that surround the cervix (fornix) And there is the vaginal orifice within the perineum. The opening of the vagina is completely or partially closed by hymen. Related anteriorly to the base of the bladder. Functions: excretory duct for passage of menses, receives penis and ejaculate (sperm, birth canal, communicates superiorly with cervix. Relations: anterior: base of bladder + urethra. Lateral: levator ani, pelvic fascia, ureters: posterior: anal canal, rectum, rectouterine pouch. Now we are talking about how the vagina will have to penetrate through the muscular sheet. The side of the vag is supported by muscles of the pelvic diaphragm.
