Recovers within several minutes: minutes: potentiation, depression same as above, up to an hour, reversible biochemical processes, they end at one point. Long-term plasticity: hours, days, infinite: long-term potentiation, long-term depression. Irreversible: lasts as long as its not actively reversed. Efficacy can be increased or can be decreased (depression). There are a lot of names for synaptic potentiation but only one name for depression. No matter how its called, you can distinguish between long term and short term plasticity.
