Anatomy and Cell Biology 3309 Lecture Notes - Lecture 16: Troponin T, H&E Stain, Glycogen
Document Summary
Skeletal muscle is the only muscle type that is voluntary. Cardiac and smooth muscle contract without voluntary thought: do not think about heart contracting or moving food through gi tract, it occurs automatically. Skeletal muscles are very long and tubular may not see an entire muscle cell in a slide because they are very long. If a muscle cell is cut longitudinally: see long bands of muscle. Epimysium: entire muscle belly is wrapped in a dense irregular connective tissue layer: encompasses the entire muscle belly, e. g. bicep has two muscle bellies, and each is wrapped in epimysium, similar to the epineurium. Muscle belly is made up of muscle fascicles: similar to nerve bundle of axons make up a fascicle with multiple fascicles within a peripheral nerve. There are multiple muscle fascicles within the muscle belly. There are no neurovascular bundles in perineurium but there are arteries and veins in the perimysium layer wrapping around each fascicles.
