Feel free to email me (oneclass512475@gmail. com) if you have any questions or don"t understand something! Know major subdivisions of the thalamus: main connections & primary function. Describe the location and major functions of hypothalamus and epithalamus. The diencephalon is composed of: thalamus, hypothalamus, epithalamus (pineal gland), and subthalamus (including subthalamic nucleus clinical definition of basal ganglia) From the diagram, we can also see the third ventricle, a triangular shaped ventricle at the midline, which is fluid filled, except for the interthalamic adhesion running across it. The right and left halves of the thalamus are connected by the interthalamic adhesion that extends through the third ventricle. The thalamus is the largest component of the diencephalon and is located medial to the internal capsule at the midline on either side of the third ventricle. The thalamus is ventral to fornix, a large band of fibres involved in limbic connections & connects the temporal lobe to the hippocampus and hypothalamus.
