Anatomy NotesMar 2912 Penis It encloses the spongy urethra It contains of three columns of erectile tissue It is made up of three structural regionsthe root attaches penis to the abdominal perineum the body and the glans The perineum is an anatomical region that contains the scrotum the root of the penis and the anus The floor of the perineum is formed by the muscles of the urogenital diaphragm The skin surrounding the penis is loose and it extends distally around the glans to form the foreskin The corona divides the body from the glans The external urethral orifice is located in the glans The suspensory ligament is deep fascia from the pubic symphysis that forms a sling that attaches to the root of the penis The penis contains three columns of erectile tissue which are thick tubes covered by a sheath of dense connective tissue The corpus spongiosum is located midventral and it contains the spongy urethra The position of structures dorsal or ventral is named in reference to the erect penis The corpus spongiosum forms the glans penis distally and a part of the root called the bulb of the penis proximally The other two erectile tissues are the paired corpora cavernosa which are dorsal They contain large arteries Their proximal ends in the root are the crura of the penis Root of penis It is the attached part and it consists of the bulb is continuous with the corpus spongiosum the crura proximal separation of corpora cavernosa anchored to pubic arch of bony pelvis the ischiocavernous muscles crura are covered by these muscles and the bulbospongiosus muscle bulb is covered by this muscle controls ejaculation The root is located in the superficial perineal region It lies below the pelvic diaphragm and ends at the external genitalia Perineum The perineum is a muscular region that contains the external genitalia and the anal opening It is a diamondshaped area located between the pubic symphysis the coccyx and the ischial tuberosities It is made up of the urogenital triangle and the anal triangle The pelvic diaphragm is in the deep perineum and
