Intraspecific- within the same species or interspecific- signals passed between members of different species. Metacommunication- 19% is metacommunication, everything else about the message other than spoken words ex. tone of voice, body language, seen in other animals as well. ~ vicki- raised by the hayes, naive assumption that chimps could produce same sound as humans, could say a couple words similarly, realized they don"t have the same apparatus. ~ washoe- taught asl by the gardners, never heard english, sign language, taught baby. ~ koko- taught asl by penny patterson, hears english, remembers how parents were killed and can explain, mourned loss of partner, snapped out of mourning by robin williams. Kinesics: study of nonverbal communication, frames message. 90% of emotional message is presented by body language.
