Men found to tease differently than women. Men teased girls about being ugly or bodily harm. Mothers teased girls about being crazy or withdrawing affection. The teasing sequences conveyed a number of underlying messages to children, especially messages concerning the nature of social relationships. Teasing sequences reinforced relationships both through the content of the episodes and through the structural relationships created as the sequences developed.
