The study of the music of different cultures: music as a process not simply a product. In inuit culture it is considered a game. A competition between two people: an expression of strength. If two people last more than 30 seconds it is considered a good partnership: there is no winner. If someone refuses it is seen as suspect: the sound in ongoing. When it is two people, they have to echo each other. If one person changes than the other person has to change. Symbolizes one"s ability to cope with messing up. Is a way to express discomfort: originally critiqued as she did not perform with another inuit woman. While she would perform with other people, they were not considered the people that she should have been performing with: she does not believe that reconciliation is not possible at this time. Would be comfort reconciliation instead of actual reconciliation.
