Lecture 8  Electron transport chain (ETC) and oxidative phosphorylation (chemiosmosis): o Occurs in the inner mitochondrial membrane o Uses ETC (cytochrome proteins) and ATP synthase (enzyme) to make ATP + o ETC pumps H across inner membrane, which lowers pH in the inner membrane space o Folding of the inner membrane increases the surface area for this to occur o Electrons are transferred by NADH to the first molecule in the chain o Last cytochrome passes it’s electron to oxygen, which also picks up a pair of hydrogens to form water  For ev
