Biology 2382B Lecture Notes - Lecture 17: Fetus, Signal Transduction, Protein Kinase
Document Summary
When interfering with the mechanisms that trigger cell death in development (interdigitization), there has to be death of this interdigit cells: during development there is arrest of cell death which leads to formation of digits. Interferes with the pro-apoptotic signaling pathways that normally trigger the progressive destruction between bones and feet = webbing. Programmed cell death (apoptosis) is a key process: ensures normal embryonic development, proper tissue homeostasis in adult animals, active cellular process that is morphologically distinct from necrosis (where cells swell and burst) Apoptotic bodies by encapsulating them in little vesicles. Apoptotic cell: engulf it sucks off the little baggies: chromatin is very condensed broken into two areas, see the apoptotic bodies. Note: the dna itself gets cleaved in a very repetitive manner. If you took dna and electrphorese it you would see a dna ladder: the nuclease that cut the dna, cut in between the nucleosomes, dna wrapped around histone complexes = nucleosome.
