Red blood cells are being made by mitosis (cell division), ensures all cells have a and b: mitosis ensures that all somatic cells have the same alleles. Case of mary jane: mary jane needs a kidney transplant and her doctors tissue type members of her family. But they tell her that she is not the mother of 2/3 of her children. Mary jane"s blood is regular, so is her husband"s and her children"s nothing weird in blood types. Tissue typing antigens are coded by histocompatibility locus (hla) White blood cells have a nucleus, they display tissue typing antigens . Each distinct collection of alleles = a haplotype: each person expresses 2 different hla haplotypes (since we"re diploid)
