Example: imaginal discs area which develops into wings within drosophila flies. Very distinct compartment with distinct expression patterns of genes and proteins associated with it. Looking at the protein labelled so that its location and expression within the structure can be visualized. When you mutate one particular gene affecting the expression pattern of that particular gene, it affects what happens to another one. Interactions between different protein products since they"re needed for each others" existence. Vestigial is not produced in many cells in which it is found in the wild-type. Vestigial expression depends on wingless being present in neighboring cells o. Follow expression patterns to see what each individual protein is doing and how it impacts other proteins. It has both mutant phenotypes: a and b. Gene a and gene b act independently in unrelated pathways. Suppression phenotype neither of the mutant phenotypes show. It shows a more severe mutant phenotype than either of the single mutants.
