Document Summary
Origin mythology: there are thousands of different origin myths and there is one myth for physical and biological realms. Believes there is common descent of humans and animals. It invokes a designer (teleological), which is some entity that created humans and animals. The material world has a designer and serves a purpose. Philosophy: one explanation for physical and biological origins. Has materialistic/naturalistic concepts (focus on material world, not spiritual world) and there is an emphasis on chance (believed chance explained origin of world, humans, and animals). Chance - there are certain solid and indivisible particles carried along by their own impulse and weight, and that the universe is formed from the accidental concourse of those particles. Epicureans proposed that it was from minute particles possessing neither colour, nor any kind of quality, nor sensation, but coming together by chance and accident. Ancient greek philosophy: plato (424-328 bce) introduced concept of the ideal form.
