Document Summary

A population"s allele freq. will change over time and not match the predictions of the hw model if one or more conditions are violated. Mutation, gene flow, genetic drift, natural selection and nonrandom mating. A mutation is a heritable change within dna which may be neutral, detrimental or beneficial: mutation is a major source of heritable variation. For most animals, only mutations in the germ line (gamete producers) are heritable. In plants, could occur in meristem cells; which eventually produce flowers. Deleterious mutations alter an individuals structure and function or behaviors in harmful ways. Several simple mutations in humans cause forms of ehlers-danlos syndrome- a disruptions of collagen synthesis that may result in loose skin, weak joints, or sudden death from rupturing of major blood vessels. Lethal mutations cause death of organism carrying it/them. If lethal allele is dominant, hetro+homo carries will be affected. Lethal mutation that causes death before an individual can reproduce is eliminated from population.
