Because intelligent design is not a scientific theory. Recall from study assignment: scientific theories are statements that can be falsifiable, and proven. Intelligent design can not be falsified easily. Populations change over time from one generation to the next (ex. Allele frequencies in a population change from one generation to the next. All life is related through common ancestry. Some species share traits from each other (homologies) that are from a common ancestor. Humans share a relatively recent ancestor with chimpanzees, but also have a common ancestor with virtually every other species. Humans, chimps and bacteria all have the same genetic code. Lineages diverge (speciate) into multiple daughter lineages.

Biological evolution is the process whereby earth’s life changes over time through changes in the genes of populations of organisms in succeeding generations. Species have evolved from earlier, ancestral species through natural selection. Discuss this process in detail. Why is this beneficial for species? Why do you think there is controversy about human evolution?
