Before divergence occurs, can find luca for all the eukaryotes or prokaryotes, etc. People of diff origins meet and share stories and paths converging. Start at present day and climb down the tree of life. 8. 7 million other species doing the same thing. Branching points on tree of life rendezvous points (speciation events) At each point, meet other species, and the group"s mrca. By 30 generations, 230 ancestors > 1 billion.
