Document Summary

What are the fundamental aspects of the fluid mosaic model. This asymmetry results in funcfon di erences by each side. Basic structure of a lipid, a faiy acid. Lipids are water insoluble molecules that include fats, phospholipids and steroids. They are composed mainly of hydrogen and carbon and are non polar molecules. Role of hydrophobic e ect in membrane formafon. When phospholipids are added to an aqueous solufon, they self assemble into one of three structure: micelle, liposome or bilayer. The structure is dependent on the phospholipid concentrafon. This results in faiy acid tails interacfng with each other and polar head groups associafng with water. What is meant by the terms saturated and unsaturated. Saturated fats are comprised of carbons who"s valence shell is fully bonded to (saturated with) other carbon or hydrogen atoms. Unsaturated fats contain at least one carbon pair that is double bonded.
