Biology 3597A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 19: Transfer Rna, Ribosome, Hydrolysis
Document Summary
Review: what is required for translation: mrna, ribosome, charged trna, other regulatory proteins. Making a charged trna is an energy-requiring process. Adding an amino acid to the corresponding trna requires atp: this amino acid addition is performed by the trna synthetase, there is a specific trna for every amino acid. The overall fidelity of translation is dependent on the accuracy of two processes. Aminoacyl-trna synthesis: don"t want the wrong amino acids inserted (highly regulated process, these processes are extremely important in keeping protein synthesis accurate. Amino acid interacts with atp and is adenylated with the amp portion of atp: this causes the phosphate to be released. Aminoacyl-trna synthetase has a recognition site for amino acid as well as a recognition site for the corrext trna: the anticodon interacts with the aminoacyl enzyme. Trna is brought in, and is covalently bonded to the amino acid.
