What we have discussed so far are not chemical weapons. In order to be a chemical weapon (cw), a weapon has to be: highly toxic, rapid action, persistency, cannot see or smell easily, classified as a wmd (weapon of mass destruction) The chemical weapons convention has a list of chemical weapons and the agents that may be used to make chemical weapons. Categories of lethal chemical weapons: pulmonary agents (choking agents) Kill by causing lung damage: nerve agents. Prevents use of o2: blistering agents. Skin and lung damage; rapidly absorbed; damage proteins, dna, etc. Also known as choking agents, they cause injury and death by damaging the lungs and causing them to fill with fluid.
