Names of thera from theras, son of autesion(sparta) who colonized the island with his fellow spartans. Santorini is a venetian name for the island. Akrotiri derives from greek word for cape/promontory. A volcano explosion caused decline in the population in the region. The canonical story of atlantis was written down by plato around 350 bc. His story relates how the athenians led the charge against the atlantians. After the victory, there were earthquakes and floods that sank atlantis and the athenian warriors disappeared. People left then came back to rebuild. Next phase was a rain of pumice. Final phase: volcano erupted with 6-8m of ash from the explosion fell onto the island. Red circle = those who were affected and damaged area. Decline in crops as ash went into the sky. The volcano didn"t affect mycenae cause the crops weren"t affected. If one region falls, trade import/export falls in other regions so fall of thera > fall of eastern empires.
