Strong rocks tend to fracture while weak rocks tend to flow (in the solid state) however, with enough time even strong brittle rocks will eventually flow. Joints are parallel patterns of fractures without displacement caused by cooling of igneous rocks, sheeting due to unloading, and by tensional stresses where folds bend the most (near the fold axis); ore deposits can be found along joints.
