Document Summary
Unit 10 economic petroleum and ore deposits. Ore deposits defined as a mineral that has demonstrated to be economic. Each deposit type forms in a very different tectonic environment and is formed by a unique set of processes. Although all rock contains virtually all natural elements that exist, the abundance of these elements of the average rock are too low to call it a mineral or ore deposit. Concentration of an economic element(s) via natural processes increase the abundance of an element to the point it can be mined for profit. Concentration process that result in an ore deposit must have three basic requirements: source, transport mechanism and site of deposition: source. Source of metals and minerals is typically crust. Average crust is low in relative abundance of economic elements however, generation of magma or leaching of the crust by different transport processes can concentrate these elements.
