Meteoritics study of meteorites: draws upon many fields such as cosmochemistry, planetology, and space exploration. Two categories that all meteorites appear under: finds. You more or less stumble across it and you have no information of when it got there. Meteorite whose entry though the atmosphere has been witnessed, and someone has recovered a piece (or all) of the object: fall. Irons: 6, almost all entirely iron + nickel metal alloys. Stony-irons: 1, 50-50 mix of the same metal alloys and non-metallic silicate/oxide materials that look like ordinary stone". Stones: 97, almost entirely the latter material, subdivided into: Considered aggregates of cosmic sediment" that have never been altered nor melted greatly since first compressed together. Accretion process of clumping together of the various products appearing in chondrites. Contain carbon that may be tiny diamonds, graphite or hydrocarbon organic molecules. Igneous rocks that have been at least partially melted and recrystallized.
