Earth is different than the rest of the planets in our solar system due to the process of. Alfred wegener: he grouped his idea under the heading continental drift and published them in 1912: he was struck by the jigsaw fit of the continents. There was no major advancement in plate tectonics until the second world war. Scientists were amazed when these submarine sensors began to detect curios, repetitive records in ocean floor rocks. After the wars two lines of research helped create the map of the ocean floor: one was to hunt for natural minerals, second was to map geological features. 180 million years ago north/south america and europe/africa were in contact. Any material that is magnetic will actually float if it doesn"t have restriction. Dynamo model: in this model, electric currents are generated by enormous dynamos driven by circulating hot currents in the liquid metal outer core and magnetic fields surrounding those electric currents.
