The particle size of the crushed material is very important and determined to maximize ore recovery. If the particles are too large, gangue and ore minerals will still be still stuck together as rock particles. This can affect liberation and ore recovery since the gangue minerals will not only be included in the next stage but they may reduce the exposure of the ore mineral to treatment substances in subsequent stages. If the particle size is too fine, clay-size, this material does not travel through the processing system well and tends to clog and stick to processing equipment.
