Engineering design process: fundamental concepts in lectures, practice in studio in smaller fall projects & mdp. Technical content: high school knowledge, research/gather information on your own, team work. Designing is creating or formulating a course of action or the form of an object to satisfy a need: product design. Engineering designers use a systematic design process. There are many different versions of the design process that are similar: recognition of need, problem definition, generation of concepts, evaluation of selection of concepts, prototype construction and testing, design communications. Iteration and reflection: specification development/ planning phase, determine need, customer and engineering requirements, develop a project plan, conceptual design phase, generate and evaluate concepts, select best solution, detail design phase, production phase, service phase. Installation, use etc: product retirement phase, length of use, disposal, and recycle. Lifecycle design: conception, manufacture, use, final disposal, maintenance. An improvement of an existing technological product, system, or method of doing something.
