Feels like a novel about a lot of different things. None of the characters are eminently likeable. At the time (1890s) there was a lot of anger and court cases about african- People turned to the kkk as an extra-legal form on punishment. They were coming out with anti-black propaganda at the time. Poll taxes, literacy tests in order to vote. This prevented blacks from gaining any power. The kkk were trying to keep the blacks (cid:498)in their place(cid:499) Twain didn"t agree with this, he fought against u. s. imperialism.
