Most travel writing is based on a quest: the gure of a quest will be invoked by the writer/narrator they themselves are a quester : travel pilgrimage // spiritual, environmental travel writing. Travelling subject: we assuming its the author, caryl phillips, but in actuality it"s a version that has been distilled and the persona has been created . Simone weil: epigraphs exist to tell us how to read the text. Only one of the aforementioned texts are travel writing: richard wright"s pagan. Hollywood"s casablanca: emphasis on hollywood due to the different portrayal in movies vs. real life. media colonization. Some places are not neutral: they are already shaped in our minds due to the media portrayal.
