She changed it a few days before finishing it. Novel set between ww1 and ww2, between acts of love. Comment on intermissions that make up a performance. Woolf feels that she is in the zone between two deaths. Writing this novel before the second world war, modernism. She is struggling with the text, the global situation, and her mental illness. Mother died at 12, woolf and her sister were molested by their half brother. Father died in 1904 and attempted suicide, and then when her brother passed from typhoid in 1906. She often got deeply depressed after finishing a novel. Between the acts is her last work, there is much of her in it. Implication of women"s role in the constitution of patriarchy.
