Set in the prairies, the waste land essentially. Mrs. bentley is not a relatable narrator, which makes us hard to tell what is true and what is not true. Because of this, the book requires extraordinary attention and reading skill. Although it may seem quite simple, the ideas are actually very complex, hence requiring deeper analysis. So today i let him be the man about the house, and sat on a trunk among the litter serenely making curtains over for the double windows in the living-room. Mrs. bentley assumes things about people, reading into the other characters and predicts what they are thinking. She describes the house as smug ; personifying the house she projects not only onto people, but also onto inanimate objects: there is something about it that hurts. Second storey: what is the second story that we must listen for and look for as we listen/read the story of mrs. bentley.
