We are no longer thinking of machines as tools, we are the machines as they are us. Cases world is the world of bars, punks. Case had a job before the book started- console cowboy (hacker) the new frontier is cyberspace. Case is running a side deal with the data that he stole, so the people he worked for destroy his ability to enter cyberspace, he only sees white noise. Why is the human body imagined as useless, the body has become an obstacle or impediment. The body demands things of us, needs sleep, washing, bathroom. A digital way of thinking of the religious dream of transcendence. The dematerialization of the world, the body has become a hateful object.
